A woman meditating
Ho'oponopono

How many times should I repeat the Ho’oponopono prayer?

You’ve probably heard some stories about ho’oponopono. Like most traditions its techniques are powered by stories. The two main stories are about the origins of ho’oponopono, and the second about the ‘miracles’ you may achieve through using it.

Originally there were prayers, yet not the one commonly associated with contemporary ho’oponopono.

This is most likely what you’ve learned that ho’oponopono is all about. This ‘prayer’ was popularised by Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len (who said he used it when he worked with criminally insane people  on a special ward at Hawaii State Hospital.

It’s very simple, and addressed to your subconscious inner-child (rather than directly to Divinity).

Divinity is a word in ho’oponopono that’s known in almost every traditional culture under various names.

It refers to something that’s not one, not two, and not many. It’s not really a ‘thing’. It is indescribable, and undefinable, yet our challenge seems to be to do just that.

Philosophers do it. Scientists do it. Mathematicians do it. Astronauts do it. We all do it in different ways, even drug addicts when they first begin to explore psychedelics. Meditators most certainly do it.

In ho’oponopono, you don’t do this. Indeed, you are doing the opposite. You’re saying a prayer seeking to remove karmic-data from the recordings recorded in their subconsciousness.

This may seem nihilistic, yet it’s rather the opposite. The more you immerse yourself in ho’oponopono the more life challenges you in ways that delight.

The prayer is very simple:

Thank you.
I am sorry.
Please forgive me.
I love you.

I’ve described what it’s all about here, including why it’s not to be ‘pitched’ solely to Divinity.

You may repeat it as often as you wish. Dr. Hew Len recommended that you train your subconscious (inner child) to run it automatically 24 hours every day.

There is a huge difference between the structure of this prayer, and the longer ho’oponopono.

The key to that process is to make sure that you have discussed and listed all of the details before conducting the ho’oponopono.

After conducting it, nothing should be repeated (unless important new information comes to light).

The prayer, however, may be repeated whenever it comes to mind.

Dr. Hew Len (and others) also provide a number of additional cleaning tools (remedies) for a variety of problems.

Many are covered on this website, and also in the book which it supports.
